Becky Moen named NCC co-MVP; Gene Roebuck named NCC Coach of the Year

Grand Forks, ND – University of North Dakota junior Becky Moen (Morris, MN) was named the North Central Conference co-Most Valuable Player the league office announced today. Moen shared the MVP honors with South Dakota sophomore Mandy Koupal. UND head coach Gene Roebuck was named NCC Coach of the Year for the seventh time, while junior Jenny Boll (Crookston, MN) was named All-NCC for the second straight year.

Sophomores Marisa Leighton and Mary Perrizo were named to the honorable mention All-NCC team.

North Dakota finished the season with a 22-4 record and a #3 national ranking. The Sioux won their second straight NCC regular-season championship, going 14-4 in league play. It was their eighth league title since 1990.

Moen led the NCC in scoring (22.7 ppg) and free throw percentage (.837) and finished second in 3-point field goals made per game (2.54) and fifth in steals (1.96). In the Sioux's 103-77 victory at Morningside on Jan. 12, Moen tied the NCC single-game record when she poured in 44 points. She becomes the sixth UND player to win the MVP award and the fourth in five years, joining Durene Heisler (1990), Sheri Kleinsasser (co-MVP, 1995), Jenny Crouse (1998 and 1999) and Theresa LeCuyer (2001).

Roebuck won the NCC Coach of the Year for the seventh time overall and for the fourth time in the last five seasons. He was named co-Coach of the Year in 1990, then won the award outright in 1991, 1994, 1998, 1999 and 2001.

Boll finished fifth in the NCC in scoring (17.8 ppg) and was ninth in rebounding (7.6 rpg). She led UND in field goal percentage at 56.7 percent, which was the second best mark in the league.

Sophomores Marisa Leighton, who is third on UND in scoring (10.5 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.7 rpg), and Mary Perrizo, who led UND in assists (74), was second in steals (49) and averaged 9.1 points per game, were named honorable mention All-NCC.
