Notes
This pick was really a no-brainer. A starting pitcher cannot really even have a better week than this, and Roger Clemens really deserves it. These past three starts have "rocketed" him into Cy Young contention. His season numbers now stand at 17-6 with a league-leading ERA of 2.64. He also leads the league in strikeouts (216) and opponents batting average (.195). He is also in the top 10 in wins, complete games (5), innings pitched (198.0), winning percentage (.739), and shutouts (3).

Clemens only real competition for the Cy Young award is Pedro Martinez. The two pitchers have nearly identical numbers, the only difference being that Roger has more walks, but fewer hits and homers allowed. The Cy Young race will obviously come down to the final few starts, so if Clemens can keep up his great pitching, he should have a great shot at the award. Should he win the award, he would become the first pitcher to ever win 5 Cy Youngs. Greg Maddux is also in the same situation. It would be very fitting for the two greatest pitchers of our modern era to break the record together.
