This torrid week for John Olerud was just one of many this season. His great week helped to bolster his batting average up to .352, an NL high. With a current hitting streak of 23 games, he is among the leaders this year. With a few more games, Olerud can possibly set a new high mark for the majors this season.
With Todd Hundley just coming off the DL, Olerud's consistently great hitting assures that he'll maintain 1st base. This coupled with Mike Piazza having a lock on catching, it looks like Hundley better break out his outfield glove, because he should be there for quite some time.
The last time Olerud was hitting this great was back in the American League when he was with the Blue Jays. The Jays sure could use his offense now, but luckily Carlos Delgado helps to heal those wounds.
