After a the player of the week last week came from the AL (Albert Belle), this week's POW is from the NL. Vladimir Guerrero has really been putting up outstanding numbers all year long, but this week he was certainly a standout. What must be kept in mind is that Vlad is just playing in his second season, and he is already putting up monster numbers as the scouts as projected. He is currently in the NL top 10 in batting average, home runs, multi-hit games, runs scored, hits, total bases, and slugging percentage. Now that is amazing.
However, I warn all Expos fans -- Enjoy it while you can, and don't get your hopes up. Another season like this is going to warrant a major pay increase, and Expo fans don't exactly pack it in at Olympic Stadium. In other words, it's probably just a matter of time before Vlad is traded, or set loose into the free agent market. Lets face it, it's his destiny. Just ask Pedro Martinez, Larry Walker, John Wetteland, Jeff Fassero, Jeff Juden, Andres Galarraga, Mike Lansing, Darin Fletcher, and the list goes on. The only thing that's kept Rondell White in town is injury.
