Los Angeles selected Luc with their ninth choice (171st overall)
in the 1984 Entry Draft. In 1986-87, Luc started his NHL career with Los
Angeles in grand fashion, leading the Kings in goals and overall scoring.
He made the All Rookie Team that year and became the first King ever to
win the
Calder Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year. Luc returned to the
Kings in 1997-98 after spending one season with Pittsburgh and two with
the New York Rangers. He was traded to Los Angeles in exchange for Kevin
Stevens, on August 28, 1997. He has participated in six All-Star Games
(1988-93).
The left-winger's best season, offensively, came in 1992-93, when he
tallied 63 goals and totaled 125 points. In 1998-99, he led the Kings in
scoring with 39 goals and 35 assists, while playing in all 82 games.
Luc graduated to the NHL after a very successful junior career with
the Hull Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He capped
off his junior career in 1985-86 with 68 goals and a league-leading 123
assists, tying him with teammate Guy Rouleau for the QMJHL scoring
championship, with 191 points. Also in 1985-86, Luc was selected to
the QMJHL's first All-Star Team and won Canadian Junior Player of the Year
honors. In three seasons, he scored 155 goals in 197 games.
Luc played for Team Canada at the 1986 World Junior Championships,
notching three goals and eight points in seven games. In 1992, Luc potted
one goal in the Canada Cup and scored four goals in eight games at the
1994 World Championships.
Away from hockey, Luc is active with many different charities. He enjoys
