The New York Islanders chose Zigmund in the second round (26th overall)
of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. In 1997-98, the forward tallied 45 goals and
87 points. In 1998-99 he played in 50 games, scoring 22 goals and 28 assists.
He was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on June 20, 1999.
Before playing in the NHL, Zigmund played for Nitra and Dukla Trencin
(Czech Republic), scoring 203 points in 138 games.
Zigmund won a bronze medal with the Czechoslovakia National Junior
Team at the 1991 World Junior Championships in Saskatoon. He was also part
of the Czech team that played in the 1991 Canada Cup. The forward played
for Slovakia at the 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics, as well as the 1996
World Championships and the World Cup of Hockey.
