Game Story
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- First, the Los Angeles Kings bloodied the Columbus Blue Jackets. Then they buried them.

Luc Robitaille scored twice and Zigmund Palffy added a power-play goal and three assists as the Kings kept the expansion Blue Jackets winless with a 7-1 rout.

Los Angeles already had a 3-0 lead in the second period when defenseman Mattias Norstrom cleared the puck into the Columbus bench. It clipped Blue Jackets coach Dave King, opening a sizeable gash above his right eye. King did not leave the bench, however, opting for a butterfly bandage as blood dripped down his face.

"I have been hit before," King said. "Us hockey players and coaches are all pretty stubborn. We're all like that. I guess I took one for the team."

"He played, he knows what it is like," added Blue Jackets left wing Krzysztof Oliwa. "We're in this together. It's just a part of the game. He can't leave."

Things did not get much better for Columbus in the third period. After Tyler Wright scored the first power-play goal in team history, Palffy, Robitaille, Jason Blake and rookie Steven Reinprecht tallied to finish off the Kings' second win on a season-opening three-game road trip.

"We're happy to go 2-1 against such tough teams," said Los Angeles coach Andy Murray. "It will be nice to play in front of our fans for a change."

Jamie Storr made his third straight start and stopped 27 shots for Los Angeles.

Marc Denis turned aside 32 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have been outscored, 12-1, over the last five periods. They blew a three-goal lead in Saturday's opener and lost at home to Chicago, 5-3.

Robitaille put the Kings ahead for good 5:19 into the opening period. Palffy followed his own rebound and backhanded a pass in front of the net, setting up Robitaille for the easy tap-in.

"The game plan was to get them back on their heels and to play our style of hockey," Murray explained. "We're very happy that Luc and Ziggy have been getting off to such a fast start. Their play determines the success of our team."

Mathieu Schneider's power-play goal doubled Los Angeles' lead at 13:48. He faked a slap shot from the point, moved to the top of the left faceoff circle and put a wrister inside the left goalpost.

Kelly Buchberger made it 3-0 with the only goal of the second period, stopping rookie Lubomir Visnovsky's point shot in front of the net and turning before curling a backhander around Denis' left pad.

Columbus failed on its first 10 power plays before Wright got his second goal of the season 2:19 into the third period. With Schneider in the penalty box for boarding, Wright scored on a wraparound, beating Storr at the right post.

But Palffy answered with a power-play goal less than two minutes later and Robitaille got his second of the game at 8:38 to move past Hall of Famer John Bucyk into 15th place on the all-time list with 557.

Reinprecht set up Blake's goal with 2:34 remaining, 66 seconds before netting his first NHL tally.
