Hull's power-play tally was his sixth of the season and gave Dallas its only lead. Sergei Zubov fired a slap shot from the blue line that Hull deflected with his stick just under the crossbar and it got past goaltender Jamie Storr.
The goal was reviewed for nearly two minutes before officials determined Hull did not touch the puck with a high stick.
"I don't think it was even close," Hull said. "As far as I can remember, my stick didn't come above my chest. (Derian) Hatcher came over to me and said the refs told him it was a goal but that they had to take a look at it."
"They reviewed it, so obviously there was a question," Storr said. "I wasn't sure, but I guess he definitely made a great play. That's why he has scored all of those goals in his career."
It continued a dominant stretch for Hull, who has points in six of his last seven contests. He also leads the club with 10 points.
The Stars are unbeaten in their last 11 home games (10-0-1) against the Kings and are 18-1-6 overall vs. Los Angeles over the last five seasons.
Dallas also has won five straight for the first time since February 12-19, 1999. It has won four consecutive home games to improve to 4-0-1 at Reunion Arena this season.
Ziggy Palffy scored his team-leading seventh goal for Los Angeles, which is winless in its last four contests (0-3-1). Playing again without All-Star defenseman Rob Blake, the Kings fell to 0-2-1 on a four-game road trip despite owning a 2-0 lead.
"We definitely had a lot of energy tonight," Kings coach Andy Murray said. "I thought we had real good movement on our power plays. There was a lot of encouraging signs. We played very hard."
Mike Modano tied it for the Stars with 4 1/2 minutes left in the second period. Kings left wing Craig Johnson fanned on the puck behind the net and the Stars' Jamie Langenbrunner gained control. He passed in front to a wide-open Modano, who wristed a shot past Storr.
Nelson Emerson had given the Kings a 3-2 lead seven minutes earlier. He skated toward the net after receiving a pass at the blue line from Bryan Smolinski and put a backhander past goalie Ed Belfour.
Emerson has points in four of his last five games.
This marked the season debut for Kings center Jozef Stumpel, who ended his holdout and signed a three-year deal on Wednesday. He was a plus-1 and did not record a shot.
Zubov scored his second goal of the season for the Stars, who were 3-for-6 on the power play and recorded a season-high 37 shots.
"We're working hard, putting a lot into it and getting timely goals and the right saves at the right time," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We had some people play really hard to catch up to the pace of the game tonight. I thought our power play brought us back in the third period."
Steven Reinprecht scored his third goal and fellow rookie Tomas Vlasak collected his first NHL point for Los Angeles, which closes the trip on Monday against Anaheim.
