Barrie Hawkes Nicknames: Bazza, the Grey Fox (by Finchy), Grandad (by some very discourteous opponents) Position: Defender / target man Previous Clubs: United [Invercargill] (In'gill 2nd grade, Southern League Div 2); Southland Boys High School (In'gill 1st grade); Northend (Dunedin); Eltham [Taranaki] (Western Tasman League); Hawera (WTLeague); Edgecumbe (BOP Div 1 & 2) Career highlights so far: Collecting all the transfer fees from the above shifts (wishful thinking!) Being dragged out of retirement to play with my sons and finding I enjoy it even more the second time round! Being able to play with all my for the mighty Plains Rangers. Going to Dunedin to watch Kerry play for Ngaruawahia in the Chatham Cup semi-final in 1998 Seeing professional football happen in NZ and becoming an avid fan of the Kingz, Knights and Phoenix. Ambitions: To have one more season! Worst moment: Jeremy's knee injury Favourite Players: Noah Hickey (for giving Jeremy his shorts after the last ever Knights game). Wynton Rufer, Ryan Nelsen, George Best, Kerry, Darby, Ashley and Jeremy Interests outside of football: music (playing guitar), body surfing. Viewpoint: I think my wife, Rose, thinks I fully agree with the slogan on the shirt Tim gave me ... Football is life ... The rest is merely details. I reckon it's almost true, but it does give you a great release from the stresses of the 'real' world. A chance to run, jump, kick, head, compete, have fun, have a laugh. It's a great way to meet so many good people, even the refs! (just kidding) Back to Player Profiles |
