Stephon Xavier Marbury was born in February 20th, 1977.
As a native of Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY, he attended Abraham Lincoln HS in Brooklyn.
He played in McDonalds All-American game in 1995.
Then he went to Georgia Tech, where he has played for only one season.
In this single season he was named Third Team All-American by the Associated Press, ACC First Team, ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC All-Tournament unanimous selection.
Drafted 4th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, who traded him to Minnesota for the Ray Allen (5th pick).
Steph had an outstanding rookie season, in which he averaged 7.8 apg (first among rookies), 15.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 1 spg in 34.7 minutes per game. He started as the teams point guard in 64 of the 67 games he has played.
Season-highs: 33 points in a win over Utah, 17 assists in a win over Milwaukee (matched for club record).
Marbury averaged team-highs of 21.3 points and 7.7 assists in the three playoff losses to Houston. He had 28 points in Game 1, 22 points in Game 2 and 14 points plus 13 rebounds in Game 3.
He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and finished second behind Allen Iverson in voting for the Rookie of the Year award.
In his second season as a pro, Marbury averaged 17.7 ppg, 8.6 apg (4th best in the NBA), 2.8 rpg and 1.27 spg in 38 minutes per game. He started in 81 of the 82 games he has played.
Minnesota had a 45-37 record and went to the playoffs again.
In the playoffs they forced 2nd seeded Seattle to 5 games.
In his 3rd season Stephon set career-highs in points and assists- 41 points in a victory over Milwaukee and 20 assists in a win over the Pacers.
Steph was traded to New Jersey Nets in a 3 way deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Just before he turned 21 years old, he already had a book written on (The Last Shot by Darcy Frey) and
a movie based on his life (He Got Game).
