2000/2001
It's usually best to find most things from the two Sounders websites. The official one, "Seattle Sounders" and Mark Coker's "Seattle Pitch". (I am not being idle!). Alternatively, click on the match scores on the fixtures table below, to go directly to Mark's match report on that game.
MAY 6th! At last - the season is about to get underway, amid much excitement amongst the Pod people! Tonight's game is live on the tv channel KONG (5.00pm PST) Whoa! And a great start! A 4-2 beating of the 86ers, followed by a 0-0 home game against them. Quite satisfying I would think!
MAY 7th. 0-0 at the Memorial stadium. Quite satisfying against the Vancouver. However, playing the same team two days running, home and away is amazing!! There were also reports of Seattle fans being verbally assaulted and property damaged at the Vancouver game last evening. The officials being high on the suspect list. Just shows how very childish grown people can be when let loose with a badge around their necks. Really pathetic. I hope they get done!
MAY 19th. Lost 1-0 at San Diego.
MAY 21st. Beat SF Seals 2-3 and qualify (already) for the US Open Cup.
JULY 11th. Oh dear me - I have been so lax with the Sounders!!! I come back to look at it after Euro 2000 - and I find that the season's almost over with already!!! So sorry - will at least put in the results of the games and links to Mark's site. If, however, you look at the CURRENT STANDINGS you will see that the Sounders are 3rd in their division, behind the Flash and the Patriots.
JULY 22nd. Special report from Mark Coker's page! When Mascots Attack!
JULY 31st. YIKES!!!! SOUNDERS IS TOP!!!!!!!
1st August
"We the Sounder faithful are quite chuffed about having to look DOWN the table at San Diego! And this weekend's home and away series will probably decide who gets to stay on top. At SD on Friday, back home on Sunday. You gotta love the A-league schedule... Playoffs start one month and seven matches from now, so the pressure is on. A first place division finish guarantees a #2 seed and ensures that we don't face the Minnesota juggernaut until round three. Having been knocked out by the Thunder-thighs for the past 2-3 years, I cannot think of a better revenge than to end their almost-perfect season (only one loss to date) by upsetting them in the western conference finals. But I am getting ahead of myself: first, we need to sweep this weekend's series!!
I am looking forward to giving Sounder rejects Annichero, Baena and Scratchy Farace a very difficult time on Sunday!!" 3rd August NEW!!!! (to me anyhow). If you can't get to get up in the middle of the night to see the live webcasts of the Sounder's games, you can catch the archives on Allwebsports. I have seen!!! :) 5th August Great success for the Sounders last night at San Diego with a 2-1 win over their nearest rivals! Now the Sounders are 5 points clear at the top (4 points for a win). Pity a lot of the Sounders listmembers didn't have so much success with the webcam though!! 8th August Another great home win on Sunday gives Sounders a massive 10 point lead in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. (5 points on the night: 4 for the win, 1 for scoring 3 goals). I "attempted" to watch this on the webcast, but 1.30am (here) the Sounders had still not kicked off, so I gave in and went to bed! I had also tried to watch the Select match earlier, but they only showed about 10 minutes of the game! The rest of the time I spent chatting to a girl called Selena (who works for "webmaster", btw!). HOWEVER, please have a read on here for a fabulous, in-depth report from Roberto in the first of the "Postcards from the Pod". Excellent! 10th August EXCITING news involving a story about building a soccer stadium for the Sounders in Fife! Read it all here! Or, I have reproduced the report on this page, just in case the original goes missing. In order to illustrate where exactly Fife is I had to do a direction search! I used the only address I have in Seattle and the destination is some school in Fife!
![]() ![]() This particular journey worked out at 35.2 miles and took 44 minutes. The distance from Seattle appears to be the only *real* quibble about these plans. IMHO, it would be great for the Sounders. It's really pioneering in the soccer-sense - and just think of the GRASS!! I really hope it goes through.
16th August An excerpt from this week's Release. "The Friday game is Tully's Team Trading Card Night. The first 1,000 kids will receive a free set of Tully's Trading Cards that have action shots of Sounders players, complements of Tully's. Tully's is an official sponsor of the Seattle Sounders. The first 500 adults will receive samples of Tully's "Sounders Blend" coffee." It seems the adult fans aren't happy! They don't want the coffee - they want the cards!!! 26th August I am ashamed to say that I got so carried away with the Trading Cards (a set is on its way - God bless the Pod! :)) - that I plum forgot to mention that the lads WON their game against the Waves last week! Tonight the Sounders go for the Pacific Division Championship. GO SOUNDERS GO!!! 27th August Sounders did, indeed win the Championship last night! Some boring game which ended 4-3 in OT!!!! See HERE!!!!!!!!! I wonder how much this has to do with "the grass"??? (I'm working on it, I'm working on it!). OK, I've done it! See here! 8th September (I'm late again!) Whoops, Sounders' regular season finished with a mighty 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the dreaded 86ers! The hard work had been done and the league title in the pocket by then though! Next up, the playoffs!!!
PLAYOFFS Great start! 10th September - beat Bay Area Seals 2-1. Looking good! 18th September It is my sad duty to report that the Seattle Sounders' season is over. :( They lost twice over the weekend in the playoffs - home and away to Milwaukee Rampage (2-1 away and 1-2 at home). This is a shame - but they had an AWESOME season!! No more games then until Spring of next year. Oh, am gonna miss you guys!
Here are the 2000 "Regular" Season fixtures (you mean "regular" before the play-offs, chaps?!?) (USOCQ apparently means that the match counts both as a US Open Cup qualifier and as a league match (2 matches each against Bay Area (? gonna have to read the list mails!) and Vancouver, with either Seattle or Bay Area qualifying for the US Open Cup. Thought so! Kick-off times all Seattle time. I take it then that the Bay Area are the San Francisco Seals. I couldn't help noticing a few things whilst typing that lot out!! For instance, Sounders play Vancouver 7 times - but others, like US Pro-40 Select ('scuse me?) and Tennessee Rhythm (ah, yes - T-shirts all round!) only once. And then there are 4 home games in a row and 3 away games in a row. And in anybody as much as dared to ask any teams in Europe to play two games in two days ONCE in the season, they would be throttled - let alone THREE times!! And I wonder what the relevance is of the 5 past the hour kick-off times??? I didn't learn a lot last season after all!! :)
![]() Very important news regarding the SHOOTOUTS!
