NEWS
31st July and 1st August
- A very bad start of the season for the Daffs. Amoruso got booked; Jess missed a penalty (he's going!) and Mols didn't turn up. Thank goodness for Billy Dodds!
5th August An interview with Skippy. But I really don't want to talk about it! Can't stand him being "there"! Just hope he can throw a few balls into his own net (it would be worth the points sacrifice!).

6th August On the eve of the start of the Premiership, Benni Carbone, in one of his quaint interviews, pledged he would stay the season with Sheffield Wednesday ("I love the fans and the fans love me!"). Let's hope they play you though Ben!

7th AugustThe first day of the Premiership season and we get TWO goals - one from Franco and one from Michael Mols! Billy Dodds and Beni also scored (a wonder volley), but I didn't play them! Beni started on the bench, but got a standing ovation when he came on. Zola also had a standing ovation when he left the pitch; apparently he was sensational. Chelsea won 4-0! Bradford BEAT Middlesbrough 0-1 (Dean Saunders!!!) - well done, Beags! Pity you were booked! Shearer was sent off for elbowing Colin Calderwood, in his 100th game for Newcastle! We're still 2nd from bottom though! |

12th August The Daffodils are chronic! After only just over a week, the team is shaping up really badly. The simple truth is, we have no defenders or strikers - and the midfield's not too hot! We need an entire new team!! And why is Benito still starting from the bench???14th August Not much better today; although a clean sheet from Skippy (who went off injured) - but who wants that?? Benito actually started the game today, but Sheff Wed only managed a goal at Bradford. Beags scored a penalty - and performed one of his great tumbles - pity I didn't play him! 15th August It's difficult to say this, but, "Mighty Mols"!!!! 4 goals take us up to joint 2nd!! 16th August CARBONE: I'M NOT CRAZEE"Benito Carbone has made an impassioned plea to have the trouble-maker label untied from around his neck - and the tiny Italian deserves some sympathy. Carbone's name has been inserted in the Premiership's foreign offenders list, alongside such notorious criminals as Nicolas Anelka and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Yet the transfer-listed striker is still trying to figure out why he has been cast as the villain in a contract saga with two vastly conflicting sides. Contrary to the popular fears that he would never return from Italy this summer, after sending a Paolo Di Cannio-style doctor's note, he came back. "I have not gone on strike, like all the people said I would. I have not caused trouble like Anelka and Hasselbaink," said Carbone. "They have showed no respect by making problems, but all I have done is my best in training and want to help the team win when I have been on the pitch." He insists he is still prepared to sign a new deal, but Wednesday have now washed their hands of him after claiming he rejected their "fantastic" offer of £29,000 a week. Carbone refutes the wage figures with all the endearing charm of Manuel out of Fawlty Towers when he says: "I am not a crayzee man. I do not say no to that." Whatever the arguments, it remains indisputable that all Carbone has done in keeping his options open is not worse than Roy Keane - yet he has been viewed with suspicion. "I am not a bad person. All I wanted was a chance to prove that my heart is still in the club," added Carbone. "Now I have proved to him I am ready to play my best for the team, no matter what happens with my contract."" Well, I believe you Ben! |

22nd AugustWe're down to 4th now! A minute ago we were 2nd - what happened?? Well, Benito scored from the penalty spot, which was thoughtful of him. (He's looking more like Tinky Winky every day!). And Richard Gough scored for Everton! Now this was some miracle, because it's his first goal in "English" football for 12 years! Still, let there be many more of them! Apart from these two though, the Daffs have had little to boast about. Even Rangers couldn't keep a clean sheet! |
(From the Sunday Times)
Southampton 2 Sheffield Wed 0
BENITO CARBONE, who was once thought good enough to replace Diego Maradona at Napoli, will be severely disciplined by Sheffield Wednesday after refusing to sit on the substitutes' bench at The Dell yesterday. The Italian left the ground in high dudgeon and Danny Wilson, the Wednesday manager, admitted he had no idea of his whereabouts. Carbone's agent refused to continue negotiations with Wednesday over a new contract before the start of the season, which has left Wilson frustrated that he cannot plan for the season around his forward's presence. "I am disgusted about this walkout and I don't want anybody at the club who won't do his best," Wilson said. "The rest of the players cannot believe what Benito has done." The likelihood, then, is that Carbone will not play for Wednesday again. "I won't comment on that, but I was very surprised by his reaction," Wilson said. "We knew we would face a battering from Southampton at the start, and although I didn't put any gameplan to him, he'd have been the ideal player to bring on later in the match." The future for Wilson is not exactly assured, either. Another defeat, against an unexceptional Southampton team, would have been enough to make any board of directors fret. Wednesday are now at the foot of the Premiership table without a victory this season. In contrast to Carbone's behaviour, Luis Boa Morte, Southampton's £2m signing from Arsenal, was only too pleased to sit on the substitutes' bench. He wanted to study how his new colleagues played before coming on to the pitch. With 11 minutes remaining, he was sent on and made a considerable impression with his pace, having a part in Southampton's second goal. Carbone has not always been a substitute this season. Indeed, he played from the start in Wednesday's two previous matches, both defeats. In his absence Gilles de Bilde had his moments, but they did not result in a goal. Only once, when Richard Cresswell had a shot blocked, did Wednesday look likely to score.
Well, Mr Wilson WHY was Benito to be a substitute??? Admit it, you just don't like him, do you?? Give the fans a vote; ask who they want to stay - you or Benito! Who else has scored for Wednesday this season???
Wednesday sinking fast without wiles of Carbone
BENITO CARBONE brought many things to Sheffield Wednesday - sumptuous playmaking skills, fan-pleasing showmanship and an assassin's eye for the target - but the Italian's loyalty to the Hillsborough club in their hour of need was in short supply when he walked out before Saturday's defeat at the Dell. Informed by manager Danny Wilson that he would start the afternoon on the substitutes' bench, the former Inter Milan midfielder who has yet to agree a fresh contract, applied his customary turn of speed to making a rapid exit shortly before the start, reportedly heading by taxi towards Gatwick Airport. "If he's not committed to this club then fine. I don't want anyone who will not want to do his best for the club. He walked out, I'm absolutely disgusted. Will he play again? We'll wait and see on that," said Wilson. The waiting and seeing may not take that long as the Wednesday board of directors meet today. Chairman Dave Richards was reluctant to comment on the situation yesterday, having failed to make contact with Carbone. The board may also consider Wilson's position in the light of an unimpressive record of 15 wins and 25 defeats from 49 games in charge since arriving at the start of last season. Having suffered one Latin drama, with Paolo Di Canio, last season, Wilson must now pick up the pieces of another with his side, already depleted by injury, pinned to the foot of the Premiership. Already missing the injured Wim Jonk, Des Walker and Andy Hinchcliffe, patched up Wednesday could never plug the gaps against Southampton, who overcame their battalion of absentees rather more convincingly. Wilson said: "Substitutes are very, very important, an integral part of the game these days. The game plan is that the influence he can have as a substitute can be great for us." Wednesday have never been more in need of the inspiration and invention of Carbone, last season's leading scorer and player of the year, following a six-match run that has gleaned a solitary point and a meagre three goals. Two of those came from Carbone and the other was an own goal. That goal-shyness was in evidence at the Dell, summed up when, on a rare raid in search of an equaliser, Petter Rudi declined a golden shooting chance and passed to the less well-placed Richard Cresswell, whose effort was easily blocked. Southampton, without Matt Le Tissier, Chris Marsden and Kevin Davies, were noticeably sharper after the interval, Trond Soltvedt driving forward from midfield to set up Hassan Kachloul's sweetly taken opener, and Mathew Oakley playing the part of Le Tissier to flight in a 20-yard free-kick. Last season, Southampton took until Nov 21 to pass the nine-point mark, their current haul. Manager Dave Jones said: "I've had two years stabilising the club, now I'm starting to build." In contrast to Carbone, Southampton's new acquisition from Arsenal, Luis Boa Morte, was happy to start on the bench, but emerged late on to help set up the second goal

I see that my good mate, Clarkey is to be a MANAGER for one day at least; thanks to Mr Gullit's departure from Newcastle! Good luck to you Steve! And you have to go to Old Trafford! Well, if you can beat that lot, then you will become a legend! Advice: (1) See if you can manage to off-load Shearer to a Serie C side in Italy and (2) Play yourself in defence!Oh, dear Clarkey!! Newcastle went down 5-1 at OT! Told you to play yourself! |
He's been fined 2 weeks' wages! Oo-er!

A Little Round of Applause for Marco!A bit of personal indulgence for me here! Marco Simone, now with Monaco has had a screaming start to the season - and Monaco are currently top of the table. |

All is peaceful with Benito at present. He was fined 2-weeks wages and has apologised for his "spur of the moment" action. He's now back in training. I don't know - I think I'd prefer it if you left, Beni! I don't know whether I'm coming or going with you!
Monday 6th September
Benito returned to training, but was forced to train with the reserves and youngsters! :)
Benni started the game against Everton on the bench. But he was ineffectual even when he came on. Mr Wilson is in a spot of bother with the fans; 80% of whom have backed Carbone!
Good day for the Daffs - clean sheets all over the place and goals from Patrik, Mols (2) and Billy Dodds!
DESPICABLE!
Italins hit back at 'racist' jibes
Benito Carbone and Paolo Di Caio, outcasts from Sheffield Wednesday, launched a furious counter-attack on club chairman Dave Richards last night. They said he was waging a witch-hunt against them. Richards had accused Carbone and ex-Wednesday hothead Di Canio of 'killing' the club as he backed moves to restrict the import of foreign players. But allies of both players turned on Richards amid accusations of "despicable manhunts" and even "racism".
Carbon's representative Giovanni Branchini said: "I hope this attitude has nothing to do with xenophobia or, even worse, with racism. "Di Canio is playing marvellous football with West Ham. It is poor players who are destroying Wednesday and it is wrong just to blame the two Italians. "You don't lose 8-0 to Newcastle United because of a bad attitude. It is because of poor quality." "Carbone is astonished by this persoanl attack. This clumsy attempt to deflect the blame is very unfair to Benito Carbone".
Beni was shown on Sports Centre telling the reporter the number of his agent! I'm on your side, Ben - of course!
Amidst all this talk about Benito going to Derby (why would he want to do that when he goes on a free at the end of the season and can pick up whacks in his pocket?!) and poor old Large Bohemian being sacked because of writing naughty things on his website - let's cheer things up by showing a picture of Marco Simone with his blonde spikes (which are an improvement on last week's Monroe-look) and reminding everybody that EVERTON beat Liverpool last night! |

Beni plays his first game for Villa (he moved there on loan this week sometime) and was an instant hit. Pity Sullivan was in good form too - or else Benito would've had a hat-trick. Alas, no goals and the Daffodils continue to flounder very badly.
