Section [0] BETA VERSION

The PIX Editor should be bug Free. I hope.
The Wav editor should be Bug Free. I hope.
The FLI Editor is in beta stage in this version.

If you Find any bugs please let me know ASAP.	Thanks in advance.

Section [1]	Loading PIX files

Loading PIX files is easy. First make sure you are in the PIX Editor. Go to the File menu and choose
load. You will be shown a load screen where you can select which file to load. Only .PIX files will be
shown in the list on the right, no other files.

If there is no files listed make sure you are in the right directory. The PIXELMAP directory should be
there by default. If not then you probably do not have the correct path setup in the Settings window.
Or you changed directories while in the load screen previously.

Click on a file on the right and click the OK button. Larger files take a moment to load in. You will see
(If there is more than 1) up to 9 images shown at once at the top of the screen.

Below the first image you will see a blue box that shows the total amount of frames loaded in. Below
this there are 4 buttons. You can scroll through the images using these buttons. The buttons with 1
arrow will scroll 1 image at a time. The buttons with 2 arrows will scroll 9 images at a time.

You will notice that when you loaded the PIX file the first image was displayed in the large editing area.
To select another image just click the image in the top row.

Below each image there are 3 boxes.
The first box displays the images name.
The second box displays the images number in that file.
The 3rd box is a check box. See Sections 3 and 6 for more on these.

Section [2]	Editing Images

There are not many options for editing images in Carmagedit. The main reason I put this portion in was
for last minute touch up work. The major portion of image editing should be done from you're favorite
Paint Program.

It is possible to create all youre images from within Carmagedit. Tedious but possible.

Editing is simple and straightforward.
** Click the pencil Icon to draw in the editing window.

** To change the current color just click on a color in the palette on the right.
The current color is displayed below the editing tools icons.

** To draw with bigger lines click the arrows on either side of the Pencil icon.
The value on the Pencil icon will change. 1-smallest. 10-largest.

** Click the Eyedropper and then click somewhere on the image to change to that color.

** Click the eraser to clear this image.

** The 2 arrow icons below the editing tools are for flipping the image Up/Down Left/Right.

 *******************************************************************************************************************
     CAUTION *** CAUTION *** CAUTION *** CAUTION *** CAUTION *** CAUTION *** CAUTION

After Editing an image you must transfer it up to the top row or you're
				changes will be lost forever.
********************************************************************************************************************
At the top left of the Editing area is a blue up arrow. Just click this arrow and
youre changes will be added to the image. (THIS DOES NOT SAVE THEM TO THE FILE)

** Below the palette you can select what palette to view.
** In case you're not familiar with this there is 2 palettes in the game. 1 for the menus and 1 for during
    the races.

** View the images full screen by pressing the Full Screen button on the left.

Section [3]	Exporting Images

Select the File menu and then choose Export.

Select the directory where you want to export the image.
You can change the name of the file or use the original picture name.
The images will be exported as Bitmap images. (256 color windows RGB encoded)

To export all the images in this file select the Export All checkbox.
To export only selected images select the Export All Selected checkbox.

To export selected images there is a small grey checkbox below each image.
Just check off the ones you want to export. (Dont be alarmed if you check 1 and then scroll through
the images and don't see a check mark. It's still selected. To see this just scroll back to that image.

After you have selected what you want to export go to the Export window and select the Export All
Selected checkbox.

When using (Export All) or (Export All Selected) the images will be saved with there original name.
____________________________________________________________________________________

Section [4]	Importing Images

To import an image make sure you currently have the image to replace in the
main Editing window. Then select Import from the File menu.

Change to the directory where the new image lies.
Click on the images file name in right hand box.
You will see the image displayed on the bottom right.
Just press OK and youre done.

Images must be the same size as the original or you can not import them.
____________________________________________________________________________________

Section [5]	Saving PIX files

After you've slaved over your masterpiece now it's time to save it.
Choose Save From the File Menu.
You are shown the original file name and the new file name to save it as.

If you try to overwrite an existing file you will be offered the option to back
up the original file with the .BAK extension. You can also change the name of the file if you wish. Just
click in the box that shows the Save As path and name and edit it manually.

Press OK and you're done.
____________________________________________________________________________________

Section [6]	Animating Images

Below each image on top is a small grey checkbox. The same one used for Exporting
Selected Images. Just check the boxes for the images you want to appear in the
animation window on the bottom left.

Above the animation box is the Current # of frames and Which image is currently displayed.
After you have 2 or more images selected the arrow buttons below the animation box will be enabled.
The 2 middle buttons with 1 arrow allow you to manually flip through the images. The buttons with 2
arrows will loop through the images continuosly. The speed of the animation is regulated by the Scroll
bar below these buttons. Just set this to a speed that looks good on your machine. This scroll bar has
a long range in it due to the fact that no 2 machines run at the same speed. This should be able to
accomadate everyone.

Also the images in the Animate box will be centered in the box using the values of the biggest Image
chosen.

To stop the images from animating just click on a 2 arrow button again.

Section [7]	WAV Editing

To get to the wav editor if your not already there click on the GoTo menu then select the WAV Edit selection.

Once in the WAV Edit screen you will see a list of wav files on the left. Just click on one of these files
and then click the play button on the bottom pointing at this list to hear the file. Click the (Loop / No Loop)
button to loop or not.

The list on the right is the Export/Import directory. Click on a sound over there and then click the play
button pointing in that direction to hear the sound.

There are 2 long buttons in the middle of the screen. The top button will import the new sound selected
on the right and it will back up the old one with a *.BAK extension. The button below that will export a
sound selected on the left to the directory on the right hand side.

In the middle of the screen are 3 play buttons. These buttons will play the sound selected in the appropriate box.

The window at the top middle shows all the files with the .bak extension. You can revert to these files by
highlighting one of them and highlight the file to revert on the left and press the Restore from a backup file button.

Section [8] FLI EDITING

This portion is still in beta so be careful.

To load a file click the load button or select load from the file menu.

Select a file on the right. Only FLI files will be displayed. If no files are displayed then you may have the
incorrect path setup in the settings window. To correct this go to the options menu and select Default Settings.
Then change the path under the FLI tab.

Once the file loads you are presented with up to 18 frames from the file. The 1st frame is displayed in both the
Curent Frame box and the Animation box on the bottom of the screen.

The animation portion works exactly like the PIX editor portion except you don't select wich frames to animate.
They are all in the animation.

To change palettes just click on one of the 2 palette buttons at the bottom left of the screen.

To export the images click the export button or choose export from the file menu. You are presented with an
export window just like the PIX editor portion. This works pretty much the same.
If you export just 1 image then the name in the box will be the name of the file. If you export all the images then
they will be saved with the names FLI1 - FLI2 - FLI3 so on and so forth.

To import a frame just select import and choose a pic to import. This works like the PIX Edit version.

SAVE FLI FILES: Right now you can only save FLI's that contain 1 frame. The save screen is
exactly like the PIX save screen.

Section [9]	Things to come.

Well It's been fun working on this program and I have learned alot while doing it.

I originally had planned a .TXT editor and a .3D editor to go into Carmagedit.
As it stands at the moment these things might not happen.
I may have other projects to work on in the near future that I just can't say no to.
Only time will tell.

I do plan on finishing up the FLI editor and releasing version 1.0 very soon.
____________________________________________________________________________________

Section [10]	Bugs

1) When using color resolutions of 24bit or 32bit. When zooming in on an image if you
go past a zoom level of 9 the image might dissapear.

Solution: Don't go above zoom 9 or drop down to at least 16bit color for now.

2) There are probably a few bugs in the FLI EDITOR.

1 major bug is that SCI left alot of dead files in the game that aren't used. The same thing they did
with the PIX files. The big difference is that the Dead FLI files are all different formats that it looked like
they were testing when they made the game. If a file fails to load or no images are shown or you see
garbage for images just move onto another FLI file.

Again there is alot of FLI files in the game and probably 20% of them are just dead files.
