Villa are hoping to complete the signing of Robbie Keane this week, with press reports suggesting that John Gregory is confident he can land him.
Gregory is looking for a replacement for Stan Collymore who he quite clearly wants removed from the wage bill as soon as possible. There has certainly been plenty of speculation and interest in Keane this summer, with Manchester United and Middlesbrough also said to be in the picture. However, Gregory is confident that he can beat of the interest and persuade the youngster, who Wolves rate at between £6m - £7m, to join. A source within Villa Park said: "John Gregory sees Robbie as a long-term investment. Initially he will use him as a squad member before gradually bleeding him into the first team picture."
