My self-enforced lay-off tennis ended temporarily on Friday night in
Adelaide, but it was all in the name of charity. John Fitzgerald
has been the patron for the Bone Growth Foundation and I was glad to support
its charity night. It is amazing what can be achieved for children with
bone problems. The work the doctors have been doing is fantastic,
but they can never receive enough support. It was great to see so
many people at the Entertainment Centre, including Fitzy, Wally Masur,
Ken Rosewall and John Alexander. The tennis was pretty low key, as
intended, and an ideal way to relax before the new season
starts next month.
I was fortunate enough to go to the President's Cup at Royal Melbourne yesterday. It's fantastic to watch so many great golfers on one of the world's best courses. While little of golf can be applied to tennis, it was interesting to watch the way those guys react mentally to various situations.
I spent part of last week in Noosa doing a VOGUE photo shoot with my girlfriend Lara. While it was work for Lara, it is a bit of fun for me. We have now done a few shoots together, all very different.
Full-on training starts next week when fitness adviser Mark Waters comes
to Queensland. Thankfully, my knee is showing no signs of soreness.
