Knicks Waive Newbill and Smith 10.26.99

Ivano Newbill and Antonio Smith have been waived by the New York Knickerbockers, club executive vice president and general manager Scott Layden announced today. Both Newbill and Smith were signed as free agents on October 1. The Knicks roster now stands at 16 players. Newbill, 28, appeared in one pre-season game for the Knicks during the 1999 exhibition season, with one rebound over three minutes vs. Utah on October 18. The 6-foot-9, 245-pound center/forward has averaged 1.5 ppg and 2.6 rpg over 134 NBA games. Smith, 23, also appeared in one pre-season game with New York, scoring eight points (4-4 FGA) and grabbing four rebounds over 13 minutes vs. Utah on October 18. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound power forward, who was not drafted in the 1999 NBA Draft, averaged 6.7 ppg and 7.9 rpg over a four-year collegiate career at Michigan State.
