More from Amber :-)

The Night Fox:
That's a great story, Amber! I'll bet your mother really has some stories to tell - what an adventure her younger years must have been!

Amber:
Mom does have some great storys to tell. She was never star struck, just loved to dance. Her dream was to be a ballerina, but she had an accident backstage that broke her back when she was only 19. She wasn't expected to walk again, but she was lucky enough to find a great surgeon that fixed her up. Although she couldn't resume her ballet career, she could at least dance in chorus lines & belly dancing in nightclubs.

Some of the celebrities she met in Vegas were:

Elvis,Milton Berle Donald O'Connor (she was a chorus girl in his shows in fact) She went to Steve Lawrence & Edie Gourmet's wedding, but never met them. She went because everyone that was working at that hotel at the time were invited. Back then it was the El Rancho, which burned down years ago, but it was one of the first there in Vegas.

She did some extra work in a movie & on Playhouse 90. That's when she met Telly Savalas (she didn't like him....said he was arrogant). In the movie "Island of Love", she was in the opening credits doing belly dancing....in the early 60's it was very rare to see white women belly dance. It was almost always done by Arabic women. And here was mom, from a little town in Oklahoma, who was a better belly dancer then they were! Hee hee. Anyway, it was while doing that movie that she met Robert Preston, Tony Randall, & Walter Mathau, whom she said was a very funny man. I don't think that movie is shown on t.v. anymore. It was kind of a turkey. But for many years after that, she still got residule checks from Warner Bros. just for that little bit she did.

Right now I can't think of other stars she met. It was an eye opening experience for a young girl from Watonga, Oklahoma. :)

Bride:
i bet i know where our amber girl gets her looks....momma!!!!

Amber:
Thanks :) Mom used to do "cheesecake" modeling when she was 19-20. She had & still has, great legs! Typical dancer's legs. She even teaches tap dancing to some senior citizens in the mobile home park where she lives & puts on shows about twice year.

Foxie, mom is almost 61 yrs. old now.

Yeah, she is special :) She's very popular with everybody too.

She puts on great shows, especially considering she's working with people that aren't professionals. What most of her shows consist of are older people lip-syncing.....usually done for comedy. Most of these people just do it for fun, know they can't really sing & are nervous about performing in front of an audience. But they have fun.

Last year, she talked me into doing a skit in a number called, "You Gotta Have a Gimmcik", from the show Gypsey. She had me play Gypsey Rose Lee (no, I didn't strip....hee hee), I just sat there while 3 old gals in their outrageously tacky costumes sing to me about what I have to do to make it as a stripper in burlesque. It was done strictly for laughs. If you've seen the movie Gypsey with Natalie Wood, that song was also in the movie. She also had a great routine that was a tribute to Sally Rand, the fan dancer. The costumes were flesh colored to give the illusion that they had no clothes on, like Rand did, with all these big white feather fans. Everybody liked that.
