5 September 2001 - A good show by the bowlers in the
SEA Games will strengthen their chance to represent
Malaysia in the AMF World Cup in Pattaya in November.
Only one man and one woman will be selected for the
annual tournament and therefore it will create keen
fights among the national bowlers in the Games
competitions, which begins at the Mega Lanes in Prai on
Monday.
National chief coach Holloway Cheah said that the
standard of bowlers were close and the Games would be a
good platform for them to identify the outstanding
bowlers. "For now, the race is still open. Any of
the six men and six women are good enough for the World
Cup", said Holloway. "There are six events
each for the men and women in the Games and the bowlers
have more opportunities to prove themselves."
He added that the performances of the bowlers in the
next month's Thailand Open and the Philippines Open
would also be taken into account before they name the
bowlers for the World Cup. The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling
Congress (MTBC) have set a four-gold medal target for
the team. At the last Games in Brunei, Malaysia won
seven gold medals to emerge as the overall
champions. |
