15th September 2001 - Two
gold medalist, Lai Kin Ngoh fought back strongly
from 9th position in the 1st block finals
yesterday to topple the Filipinas to win her
first individual Gold medal.
Kin
Ngoh was 171 pins down going into the 2nd block
this morning and she did flawlessly to give
Malaysia her 7th Gold medal with a total score
of 3,544 pinfalls. Kin Ngoh had to spare pin-7
on her last frame to snatch the victory. Liza
del Rosario took the silver medal just three
pins behind with 3,539 while Sharon Chai
finished third and won the bronze medal with
3,359. |

Overnight
leader, Irene Garcia of the Philippines dropped
to fourth to score one point for her country
with 3,334. Irene's teammate, Liza Clutario took
fifth spot with 3,326 followed by Singapore's
Jennifer Tan in sixth with 3,325.
Four
Gold medalist, Shalin Zulkifli who was hoping to
equal her five Gold medals haul in the Brunei
games did well to finish seventh from 13th
position in yeasterday's 1st block. Other
Malaysian finalists, Wendy Chai finished 10th
while her teammate, Sarah Yap was in 14th

Malaysia
stretched their medal tally lead to 7 Gold, 3 silver, 5
bronze medals and two 4ths to total 56 points.
Philippines are maintaining their second place with 4
Gold, 6 silver, 1 bronze medal and sixth 4ths on 46
points while Singapore, who has yet to win a gold medal
lies third with 11 points.
Malaysia
also topped the Women's table with 33 points with the
Philippines in second with 27 points while Singapore is
a distant third with just 3 points.
