White to play and win. | ||||||||||||
The move that both Toppy and his computer over looked was:
1. Qxc8+!! Rxc8 2. Rxc8+ Kh7 3. b6! threatening 4.Rc7 and Topalov resigned in view of Be7 4. Bc5 followed by 5.Rc7 |
||||||||||||
Now, there is an interesting line in which Toppy might have tested Gary's technique by playing 2. Bf8?! allowing 3. Bc5 then following with 3. Qd7 saving Black some tempo and allowing his Queen to penetrate and win the b3 pawn...examine it...you'll find that it is hopeless, too.
