The folder brings the following text:

«Born in a coffee plantation farm near Brodósqui in the state of São Paulo, Cândido Portinari (1903-1962), the main representative of the Brazilian modernist painting, lived for the art. Master of an original and versatile talent, his work is featured by various phases going from academic style through the influence of the Italian painters of the Quatrocento and Picasso to the expressionism. His works are full of childhood reminiscences and social themes showing the Brazilian people and reality with an enormous sensitiveness and emotion. Like no one else, Portinari seized the Brazilian life and soul and perpetuated them through painting.»
