EPSILON
by Michael Howe (1994)
Epsilon is an extension of game of Delta. Si gioca su un tavoliere pił grande, con lo scopo di ottenere un filetto di 5 pedine, anzichč di 4 come in Delta. Viene inoltre giocato con una cadenza doppia bilanciata di mosse.
RULES
It's played on a larger board with a five-in-a-row winning condition instead of four-in-a-row.
It's also played in balanced double-move fashion, which help correct the
main flaw of Delta: for the first nine moves of Delta, the first player
in that game always has as many or more pieces on the board as the
second player. In epsilon, numerical superiority alternates on the move.
The board is 7 squares by 7 squares. Each player has 15 pieces. The
objective of the game is to get five pieces in a row or to deprive the
opponent of legal move.
White play first by placing a single piece anywhere on the board
except the center square.
Black play second by placing two pieces anywhere on the board.
Every more thereafter, a player moves a piece two o more squares and
placed a new piece, called the "follower" on the last square passed
over. The player then makes another such move using any piece except the
new follower, and places another follower. A move is comprised of both
parts, and a player who cannot make both parts of his move loses. If a
player forms five in a row on the first part of his move, he vins
immediately and is not required to make the second part.
If a player has all 15 pieces on the board, he continues to move
normally. On the first part of the move, he may use any of his other
pieces on the board as the follower. On the second part of this move, he
may use as the follower any of his pieces except the first mover and
first follower. If 15 moves are made by both player after all the pieces
are on the board, with neither player winning, the game is a draw.
