Rangers will tie up the £1.8 million signing of Monaco right back Patrick Blondeau this weekend. Walter Smith has agreed a price for the 28 year old defender and his advisors will fly in to agree personal terms. Rangers are reportedly ready to pay Blondeau £15,000 per week to entice him from Monaco where he currently earns around half that amount.

Walter Smith is ready to launch a double swoop for Monaco defenders Patric Blondeau and Emmanuel Petit. The Ibrox manager was working on a £1.8 million deal to bring Blondeau to Scotland when he learned that Petit was also available for £3.5 million. Petit is rated as the best left back in France and Smith sees him as the perfect replacement for David Robertson. Both players are keen to leave Monaco at the end of the season but are under contract so a fee would be required in both cases.

Blackburn are also willing to pay the Frenchman £18,000 per week which tops the £15,000 Rangers have offered. New Blackburn boss Roy Hodgson has made Blondeau his top target after he starred in the UEFA Cup semi final against Hodgson's present side Inter Milan last week.

Blondeau was in Sheffield for a medical yesterday and a £1.8 million deal should be tied up as soon as the French league is over.
