Rangers TargetsColin Hendry
Colin Hendry
Colin Hendry will be the first star signing Kenny Dalglish suggests to Walter Smith. Hendry has recently signed a 4 year deal with Blackburn which includes a testimonial but he did not get on with Howard Kendall or Peter Reid while he was at Blackburn.
Rangers are heading for a £4 million tug of war with Newcastle for Blackburn skipper Colin Hendry. Kenny Dalglish had lined the player up for a summer move to Ibrox but it is now likely he will try to sign him for Newcastle.
Colin Hendry will discuss a move to Rangers or Werder Bremen with Blackburn's multi-millionaire chairman Jack Walker over the next few weeks. Hendry said, "It's a difficult situation for me to talk about at the moment. I have four years left on my contract but I am due to sit down again with Jack Walker because certain things have been mooted." Walter Smith sees Hendry as the perfect replacement for Richard Gough who will join Kansas City Wizards at the end of the season.
Colin Hendry has admitted he would love to clinch a summer move to Rangers. Walter Smith is believed to be interested in bringing the Scottish international to Ibrox although he would prefer to sign a top class European defender. If that move fails then Smith is likely to switch his attention to Hendry. Newcastle are also believed to be interested but Kenny Dalglish is aware of Hendry's wish to return to Scotland if he leaves Blackburn.
Hendry said "I have four years to run on my contract but over the last few months there have been some intimations that Rangers are interested. It's possible that enquiries have also been made. It's exciting but it's a situation which is out of my hands. If anything further is to happen it will be done by the people who run the clubs. It's not really a situation where I can choose. But if events unfold and I stay at Blackburn then I would not have a problem with that."
