Antti Niemi
Date of Birth: 31 May 1972
Niemi began his career in his native Finland where he was selected the best Finnish under-21 player in 1990 & 1992. In 1992 he was also voted the league player of the year.
Niemi moved to F.C Copenhagen in July 1996 and quickly established himself as their no.1 'keeper. In his first season he was voted by the fans as player of the year.
He joined Rangers from FC Copenhagen in June 1997 after Rangers had failed to get a host of other players. He quickly impressed the fans with his athleticism and many see him as the ideal replacement for Andy Goram. Unfortunately his early career at Rangers has been hampered by injury but he will surely prove himself as a useful aquisition for the club when he returns.
