Fan Memories

Step up to the microphone!

Do you remember Diego Segui, Jim Bouton, Tommy Harper? Did you watch games in the great outdoors at Sick's Stadium? Help me preserve the memories of the Seattle Pilots.

I lived in Tacoma as a boy...we hated the Seaatle Rainiers and then the Seattle Angels! We rooted for the Tacoma Giants and then the Tacoma Cubs.....I loved Don Hill and the Tacoma teams. I listened to the Seattle PCL games rarely....and I was a little too young for Leo Lassen.

My mom and dad took me to Seattle in 1964 to see Tacoma play the Rainiers. Rico Petrocelli made an error!

When the Pilots came I still loved the Tacoma team but I did listen to Jimmy Dudley and Bill Schonley...and I thought it was great! All of the AL stars would now have to come through Seattle!

By August I was hooked and I wanted to go to Seattle. You have to understand that the big trip to Seattle then was no small thing for a poor boy from South Tacoma. I begged my mom to take me to a game and she answered (and I'll never forget), "No, we can't....maybe next year." I am still waiting for her to pay off!

Most memorable experience as a Pilot was Opening Day 1969 - The Ray Oyler fan club was out in great number - they chose the player they though was most in need of a fan club (Ray was about a .195 lifetime hitter). They gave him a car to use, an apartment too. He hit a homer in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.- Jack Aker, Seattle Pilot pitcher
