1. Sander Westerveld

Liverpool broke the transfer record of 4 million for a keeper when they bought the Dutch international in June 1999. Westerveld is highly-rated in his native Netherlands and many experts believe he can soon displace Edwin Van Der Sar as the country's new No 1. His arrival saw David James leave for Villa within a matter of 48 hours. Westerveld will bring a secret weapon with him from Vitesse Arnhem - a drop-kick known as The Bomb. Possesses an awesome kick which has previously seen him on the scoresheet. Very composed and has a great deal of confidence in his own ability, along with an amount of arrogance which was shown when he questioned the goalkeeping kit Liverpool wanted him to play in! Anfield boss Gerard Houllier hope that he can end the club's long-running, goalkeeping problem.

19.Pegguy Arphexad

The Leicester goalkeeper had few chances to take the field as understudy to Kasey Keller in 1998-99, but whenever he did he always looked both confident and competent. He twice had to come off the substitutes bench to replace Keller, at Old Trafford on the opening day, when Kasey injured a knee, and later in the win at Wimbledon when back trouble was the cause. Was also involved in the opening round victory over Chesterfield that signalled the start of the Foxes?run to Wembley and is widely regarded as a most important member of Martin OīNeillīs squad. Out of contract during the summer, the club were pleased to see the keeper sign their offer of re-engagement. Although Tim Flowers is now the number one at Filbert Street, injury to the former Blackburn stopper has given Arphexad several chances to shine so far. This has led to him hitting the headlines after two sets of penalty shoot-out heroics in successive weeks - against Fulham in the Worthington Cup and Arsenal in the FA Cup. Houllier bought him this summer as back up for Sander Westerveld.
