Nov. 16, 2001 GRAND FORKS, ND — UND guard Jeff Brandt (So., Minot, N.D.) scored 26 points to lead five players in double figures, and North Dakota defeated Jamestown, 98-66, in the Sioux men’s basketball team’s season opener Friday at the Hyslop Sports Center.
The win was the 250th of North Dakota Head Coach Rich Glas’s career at UND. Glas, in his 14th year at UND and 24th overall, is now 250-136 (.648) as head coach of the Sioux and 405-244 (.624) overall.
UND forward Robert Lolar (Jr., Wichita, Kan.) added 14 points in just 13 minutes of play, and guards Jade Jahner (So., Fargo, N.D.) and Nigel Jenkins (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) each had 12 points, while center Jerome Beasley (Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) had 11 points.
Jahner had seven assists, no turnovers and three steals while playing 28 minutes at point guard.
Beau Hensel led Jamestown with 29 points.
The Sioux shot 51.7 percent from the field (31-60), while the Jimmies shot 36.2 percent (21-58). UND outrebounded Jamestown, 45-31.
UND led by 14 points (52-38) at halftime, but the Jimmies trimmed the lead to 13 at 70-57 with 10:39 to play. Over the next 8:10, however, the Sioux outscored Jamestown 25-6 to take a 95-63 lead with 2:29 to play.
UND’s next game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Minot State.
