Jussie's report on Bayside's capture of fourth spot

Last night's competition saw the steamroller that is Bayside, race into the top four with a resounding win over Geelong, Western Suburbs and Striders.

A balmy summer's evening meant that watching the aths was more enjoyable than running, especially if you were a 400 hurdler or 5000m runner, and after a shaky sort of start, Bayside asserted their (usual) superiority to win comfortably

BAYSIDE 177
GEELONG 120
WESTERN SUBURBS 118
STRIDERS 111

In a complete turnaround, the strength of Bayside at the moment was shown to be it's hurdlers. Three 400 hurdlers, all in winning form followed by four 110m hurdlers (five, if the team manager counts!) had the other teams scratching their heads. Big thanks must go to Sandringham and Roy Boyd, who just keep on producing and abundance of hurdlers.

In terms of where we sit now with respect to the finals, we almost had a dream night...If Western Suburbs had managed to to pip Geelong for second, we would be a point and percentage clear of them, as it is, we are clear only on percentage. The big news was that Glenhuntly managed to produce another crap team and were rolled by both Essendon and APS! The bigger tragedy was that neither Essendon nor Ivanhoe managed to field a 4x400 team and let the Hunters right off the hook, otherwise it was likely that they would finish last. As it is Glenhuntly are now 1.5 points behind us and have to beat us by two places in the last round. As you can see, nearly a dream night!

My calcs have it this way
Bays 24.5 34.7%
Geel 24.5 32.3%
Glen 23 32.7%

Anyway, thanks to Dale Seers for running over 200, I will be looking forward see him run over 100m in two weeks time. Thanks to Hans Lotz for filling in for Cameron in the hammer, while Evan Rees pulled out a blinder in the 800 considering his lack of training of late and the blister that turned up on his foot. That said, I'm not sure how I let him off running a relay leg...the blister didn't cover his whole foot! I must be soft...

Jim Shaw ran a great leg in the 400 relay, and many thanks to all the hurdlers - I hope you are all there for the last round as well.

The biggest thanks though, is reserved for Brian Trower who gave us our first result in the walks for the whole season!
