More info on the Results Page. Jussie's report on Round 4, 1999/2000 The Men What was a very enjoyable day turned out to be a little disappointing after an amended score showed that we had not been able to beat Essendon after all. But I should start by highlighting the rockin' good performances on the day. It started off when Cameron Grant tossed a steel ball on a wire 64.32 on one of his extra throws. My shoddy memory indicates that this is the best throw in the state this season. Our sprinting was fantastic, yet again, and saw Tim Matthews fly down the straight in 10.84. It is great to see Tim back on the track and with Justin and Stu running well also, we always knew that the relay was going to be pretty good. We didn't know that there was going to be a stuff up at the first change and that we would have to wait another hour before we could see the guys hold off a loaded team from Essendon. Moving on to the 400, we saw the best of Brendan Cole on the flat for the first time this year. On a pretty ugly sort of day for 400s, Brendan flew around to win in 48.70. Assisted by Stu and Pete De La Haye, Bayside looks to have a pretty decent team in the offing for a relay. Tony Wilson, is there any event he can't win? The other field highlights came from Nick Baltas in the jave where he threw 67.52 and from our youngest team member, Peter Hoggan, in the high. Although it was a crappy sort of day for his event, Peter managed to clear 1.95 and win the competition. Basically, it was a great effort from the team and we know now that we can beat the reigning premiers. The WomenWhile we weren't able to fill every event, the women that did compete did so with some note. Not the least, Karen Lyne who one the $100 for her effort in the triple jump. That money dangling in front of her was just enought o bring out a winning jump that saw her take out the event. It is great effort for any athlete to win their event at State League and big congrats should go to Karen. Megan Boyes was part of the VengaBus that rocked on down the highway and after a week off due to injury, she showed that, just like Ralph Malph, she's still got it. Sarah Wiltshire continued scoring points at will, once again including the vault in her repertoire. One thinks she must be waiting for that moment when they make the decathlon an event for both sexes. Sorry for not being able to provide more info on the women's team, but this is a delayed report and my memory is almost certainly affeced by alcohol. Cheers, Justin
