More info on the Results Page. Jussie's report on Round 7, 1999/2000 The Men What a difference a walker makes! And a Pole Vaulter, we even had a Steeplechaser out there, all for the first time this season. And guess what? We won! After a lot of Christmas pudding for the manager, the men's team came out of the Christmas break with a very solid win and an excellent result where our opposition is concerned. Great thanks must go to Chris Muirden for the signing of Simon Baker as second claim to Malvern. Simon is Autralia's most decorated male walker and is an excellent perosn to have on the team. When you add his wife, Allison, to the picture, you can see that the effort Chris made looks to be well worth it. With a walker on the track, the evening starts off a whole lot brighter, even more so when you can see Leon D'Onofrio on the pole vault runway. Great to see Leon out there and we wish him all the best for the second half of the season. What loomed as a hard program proved to be just that until the past couple of events. A good team performance was ultimately the reason we came out on top. While we were short in numbers on the sprint scene, the guys ran very well and thanks must go to Matt for turning his hand to a 100m with late notice. Paul Jamieson made his debut in the 1500 and will be a great asset as the year rolls on. Aaron Neighbour won both throws in his first competition for the year and with Dorian and Matt Brown in the wings, it makes for a much stronger group of throwers. Thanks must go to Roger Moresi for his efforts in the steeple. Roger is always up for a challenge, and we will be hoping to see him on the track later in the season as well. Keep and eye out for you team members as the evenings roll on and give them your support whenever you can. It all helps, and it will cement the perception that Bayside is a very "thick" team on the track and in the field.Women The women had a good nights competition that was very close to a victory, only to be brought unstuck during the steeplechase. Ah, well, we can't have everything, I suppose. It was good to see Carmen Miller on the triple jump runway and with Karen, Jane and Helen all waiting in the wings, it is easy to see why we have the strongest squad in the state. Tamsyn was back after a breakthrough performance over 800m to compete in the 100m for us at State League...a great show of support for State League athletics. Katrina Steward won her heat of the hundred, while fellow Frankston runner, Tara Gleeson stepped out for the 400m. Also in the 400m for her first run this season was Emma Yeomans. Emma has been very successful on the pro circuit for a number of years and is a huge bonus for the women's team. As usual, but well worth a mention, Sarah Dosen and Sarah Wiltshire were great performers in the hurdles. The finals are a slim chance, so with a loaded team, you never know what might happen... Cheers, Justin
