Jussie's report on Round 8, 1999/2000

The Men

Well, I'm not sure how to look at Round 8. A draw with ladder leaders, Eastside, looks pretty solid, but the question remains, what could it have been?

In short, a disqualification of two of our 200m runners was protested against and yet dismissed following the appeal, meaning that points were lost and so, ultimately, was the night's competition.

I didn't agree with the decision at the time and I don't now. I can, however, respect the decision and make sure that nothing like this happens again. I feel like we are the Sachin Tendulkars of the aths season thus far...but what can you do?

Anyway, 3.5 points is better than 3 and there were some good efforts, yet again.

Clint and Chris ran great races in the 5000m and Clint confirmed the thought that he has a big future ahead of him. Chris is showing that he can have a big future also. In great form, Chris is truly winding back the clock and is more than the self-professed "meat and potatoes" runner.

Another person running his hardest in the 5k was Andrew Reed. Andrew is getting better all the time and will have that time in him very shortly.

Justin Ramirez showed great character to get out there and have a run in the quarter hurdles and was great support for Brendan. It is worth wishing Brendan all the best as he searches for that elusive World Juniors qualifying time and it is worth having a whisper in his ear to help us get Pete DeLaHaye back on the track!

The Hammer throwers are deserving of a mention since Hans Lotz has got the crew out in Yarra Park every week and we can be confident that the result will rarely fall below second.

Liam Wallis was able to help out in the 100mH and is was excellent to see Nfa run a 200 after an injury.

Good luck to all those competing in the Vic Titles and we will bring you the news as it hits the streets.

Cheers, Justin
