Red Ball About the Miami Heat HomePage Red Ball

The Miami Heat HomePage strives to bring you all the latest information about the Miami Heat, and interactive fun. It was created and is maintained by me, L. Deng, and is a completely non-profit, non-commercial site hosted by GeoCities. This web site is updated daily to make sure that all of the most recent news about the Heat is accessible to you.

The following is the complete history of this web site:

My cousin informed me that GeoCities offered free home pages, and I became extremely curious and interested. On Tuesday, January 21, 1997, I visited GeoCities' web site and applied for a home page. Then on the night of Thursday, January 23, I received my password in the E-Mail, and immediately headed toward GeoCities to create it.

When I first started my home page, I had no idea how to write in HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language), the language used to create web pages. I used GeoCities' Basic HTML Editor and quickly produced one web page. On it was the latest game recap of the game that the Miami Heat had concluded playing just a few minutes before I created the page, against the Toronto Raptors. It also contained some information about the latest happenings around the entire NBA. My web site had been created.

I updated the page frequently, but soon becamed dissatisfied with just one simple page. I created another page with the Heat's roster; however, I did not know how to create tables yet and the roster was crudely constructed. I quickly became aware that it would be too difficult to provide both all the latest information about the Heat and the NBA, so, since this was supposed to be a site about the Heat anyway, I decided to rid of the NBA news section. This was the beginning of a web site dedicated solely to the Miami Heat.

In about a month, though, I quickly taught myself HTML, with the aid of a newly-bought HTML book and various Internet sources. I expanded my web site to include Heat news, latest game recaps, a schedule, links, and more, this time using GeoCities' Advanced HTML Editor. However, being a somewhat experienced Internet surfer myself, I realized that surfers enjoyed interaction, and news was just plain not enough. I learned how to create forms utilizing GeoCities' easy-to-use CGI (Common Gateway Interface) script, and created a trivia contest and URL submission form in just one day (a rather large accomplishment for me).

With the addition of more forms to add interaction to the Miami Heat HomePage, I began surfing the 'Net in search of more exciting features to use for the site. I found many, including a chat room, a message board, Digital Postcards, and numerous guestbooks, and am currently still looking for more.

The site that you are viewing right now has been the hard work of one ambitious individual for several long months, created for the enjoyment of Heat fans around the world. That individual is me, L. Deng.
