Potomac Memorial Day Tournament - First Round
May 24, 1997Wheaton Wings 1, Braddock Road Rush 0
POTOMAC POLO GROUNDS - Wheaton started the 1997 Potomac Memorial Day Tournament off on the right foot defeating the Braddock Road Rush 1-0 in their first match behind a first-half goal by Deborah Wiesenfelder (Bethesda-Chevy Chase H.S.). Wiesenfelder found her target after being released behind the BRYC back line by a diagonal ball from Katie Palisoul (Whitman H.S.).
The Wings were able to control the game with a compact defense and a substitution pattern based on lines of attackers. The team's defense allowed just a single shot as Wheaton worked hard to become organized defensively immediately after any change of possession.
