1997 Wheaton Wings' Coaching Staff
JEFF PARKER
Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Parker joined the Wings' staff in Spring of 1995 after spending the previous year coaching teams in Bowie, Maryland, for the Free State Soccer Club. Parker is an assistant coach with the women's soccer program at Georgetown University and in the Maryland Boys Olympic Development Program with the 1983 State Team. He recently served on the coaching staff of the Maryland ODP Tour of Wales and England in the Spring of 1997. He holds a USSF National "C" License and coaching certificates from the Czechoslovak Football Association and the Football Association of Ireland.
Parker graduated from Texas Tech University and played with San Antonio International in the Lone Star Soccer Alliance during his college years. Parker spent three high school years in England and played with both the Brickhill Football Club in Bedford, Bedfordshire, and the Ampthill Football Club in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. He played his high school soccer at Alconbury American High School in Cambridgeshire, England. Parker currently works in the athletic department at Georgetown University and resides in Washington, D.C., with his wife Leena.
MARK GOWER
Gower brings a wealth of knowledge to the Wings coaching staff this fall season. He first worked with the Wings goalkeepers as part of their preseason training sessions before the Spring of 1997. He will be in charge of the Wheaton 'keepers on a more regular basis during the 1997 Fall campaign.
Gower is the women's goalkeeper coach at Georgetown Universtiy and is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He holds a USSF "B" License and has been working at the college level for the past four seasons. He resides in Greenbelt, Maryland.
GAIL STOTLER
Originally from Takoma Park, Maryland, Stotler has been with the Wings as a coach since their inception in the Spring of 1993. As the team's primary founder, she guided the Wings to the Washington Area Girls Soccer League Division IV title in the Fall of 1993 in just their second season.
A holder of a Maryland State Youth Soccer Association "D"
Coaching License, Stotler currently plays in the Wheaton area
with the Fast Breakers, one of the top teams in the Montgomery
County Recreation Masters League. Stotler resides in Silver Spring,
Maryland, with her daughter Kim and son Brad.
JUAN ARAYA
Coach Araya has been an assistant with the Wings since their inception and brings with him an impressive list of credentials. Araya is originally from Chile and played four years with the Illapel High School team before moving on to three seasons with Santiago's Third Division Catholic University. He also played in the Chilean Army League before moving to the States.
He has coached at numerous levels in the Washington, D.C. Area serving the YMCA Youth League, MSI Recreational League, NCSL and WAGS since 1975. He has been an assistant coach with the first division Wheaton Eagles of the NCSL, the Mason Dixon Marlins of the NCSL as well as the Wings. Araya resides in Rockville, Maryland.
