Potomac Memorial Day Tournament - First Round
May 24, 1997F.C. Dayton 4, Wheaton Wings 0
POTOMAC POLO GROUNDS - The Wings ran up against a very good F.C. Dayton side in the second game of the day in the first round of the 1997 Potomac Memorial Day Tournament who cruised to a 4-0 victory.
The Ohio team, which were victorious at the 1996 WAGS Tournament, made the most of their chances and went ahead 3-0 at the break. Wheaton had trouble dealing with Dayton's midfielders pushing forward out of their 4-4-2 alignment, complicating marking assignments. Dayton controlled the midfield and took advantage of the Wings' turnovers out of the back. Deborah Wiesenfelder (Bethesda-Chevy Chase H.S.), Yemi Abayomi (Whitman H.S.) and Anna Wasserstrom (Wilson H.S.) were outstanding for the Wings.
F.C. Dayton went on to defeat the Richmond Capitals 2-0 in the Tournament Finals on Monday, May 26.
