May 4, 1997Free State Fury 4, Wheaton Wings 1
STONEGATE PARK - Wheaton fell to Free State 4-1 at home on May 4. The Wings are now 0-3-3 on the season and are currently in eighth place in the nine-team league with three points on the season.
Against a Free State squad that had its previous day's game postponed, two unchallenged chances off corners and a defensive imbalance gave the Maryland Cup semifinalists a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
The Wings tried to press forward in the second half, but were left vulnerable to several counterattacks. Eileen Murray (Paint Branch H.S.) found the net late in the second period redirecting an early cross from Ariel Dean (Georgetown Visitation H.S.), but it wasn't enough as the Fury cruised to a 4-1 victory.
