THREE POINT CHAMPION!!!

Steve Kerr won the 1997 AT&T Shootout.

The First Round
Kerr managed only 15 points in the first round of the tournament, but it was enough to get him into the Second Round. Kerr had the fourth highest total of all the semi-finalists, trailing Tim Legler, Walt Williams, and Glen Rice.

Semi-Finals
In the semi-finals Kerr was "on fire". He scored 21 points, hitting on four of the five "money balls". His performance was enough to give him the highest total of the second round, and got him into the finals where he faced defending champion Tim Legler.

The Finals
In the finals, Kerr won the coin toss and elected to shoot before Legler. It proved to be a wise decision. It seemed as if Steve couldn't miss as he hit on nine straight shots, and hit all five "money balls". He hit four of five balls in the first rack, missed two in a row, and then hit nine straight. Kerr's 22 points was the second highest score ever recorded in the shootout final and the highest score in the tournament. Legler could not match Kerr's incredible total as the defending champ only hit for 18 points. After a third place finish in 1994, a fifth place finish in 1995, and another third place finish in 1996, Steve Kerr finally captured the title that had eluded him for years.
