The annual Relay for Life walk, put on by the American Cancer Society on May 12th and 13th at the Leon High track was a huge success. The Fin-Atics,in the first year participating in the walk, raised over $2,200 towards the search for the cure for cancer.
In early January, the Fin-Atics sold raffle tickets at hockey games to raise money for the entrance fee. Proceeds from Tip-A-Shark went towards the even along with the ballot money that was raised from the selection of the 99-00 Fin-Atics Fan Favorite that was given at the annual awards banquet at the end of the season.
The rule of the walk was that we had to have someone out representing our team on the track from 6pm on the 12th until noon on the 13th. While everyone waited for their turn to walk,we participated in several events that took place throughout the evening including a costume contest where you dressed in your nightgown. Our own Paige Sharpton placed second out of all those that participated in the event.
As the Team Captain for the walk I would like to take a minute to thank the following people for their participation: Everyone who bought raffle tickets, attended Tip-A-Shark and voted for Fan Favorite, and Sonny's for donating us dinner.
Those that came out and walked and joined in on the fun: Reva Dean,Angel Lockwood,Sharon Meadows,Lee Ann Melton,Whitney Melton,Michelle Newell,Cory Paterson,Tracey Paterson,Mandy Pinkston,Bob Porter,Jan Porter,Cori Revell,Georgie Sharpton,Mike Sharpton,Paige Sharpton,Kim Sproul,and Raneshia Williams.
Mark your calendars for May 11th and 12th and plan to come out to the fair grouds and join in the festivities for the 2001 Relay for Life.
