My Summer Adventure
by Vicki Takach

This summer was a lot of fun. This is only if you consider where I went. It was a once in a summertime opportunity that I took up on. I spent one month of my summer in the home of hockey,Canada. While in Canada,I took a trip to hockey's past, present, and future. For in this big country, was a little city by the name of Toronto. In this city was a little building with many memories, the Hockey Hall of Fame.

As you come up to the building, you see a fabulous display of sculptures. You cannot go into the front door, you have to go to a downstairs part to go in. Once you finally find your way into the building, you discover a hall that has old hockey memorabilia. It has several jerseys, pucks, and skates from the past. As you go through the turnstiles, you encounter a room dedicated to the "Great One" himself,Wayne Gretzky. Everything from sticks to skates, that Gretzky used, can be found in this room. If you dare to look up,you will see an overhead TV monitor that shows highlights from throughout his career.

As you exit, you come to a hall of jerseys. Jerseys of all shapes and sizes can be seen. Each jersey has been carefully hung so that everyone can see them. All jerseys from around the world are here in this room. One from Russia,or maybe the Ukraine,or maybe even the East Coast Hockey League. We were represented by Pensacola and Pee Dee. anyway, seeing all these jerseys was neat.

As you continue, you see several memorials. These are for the original six. Each city has an original jersey, and a picture of the original stadium hanging up. In this same hall,a display of goalie masks can be seen. All the goalie masks starting from the beginning to the present are seen.

The final destination downstairs in a fun zone. This is where you can pretend to be a goalie, see how sharp a shooter you are,or you can just play trivia with another person. One thing that I know Schultzy would like is the booth where you can pretend that you are a broadcaster for an NHL game. It is a televised game on top of that. The next stop is upstairs.

The pride of the National Hockey League is located upstairs, the Stanley Cup. The cup is up on a pedestal where you can read the names of the teams and players that won. On one side of the room is a vault. In this vault, the original cup and the very first rings of the Stanley Cup stand in pride. Some of the other trophies that are present here are the Hart trophy and the President's trophy.

This is the end of my journey. There is so much more I could tell, but I am limited on my space. So,I hope every Tiger Shark fan can go to the Hall of Fame. I had a lot of fun and I'm sure you will too.
