Sagebrush Singletrack Series - Race #2
Finley Hills As I stepped out my door and looked over the lake, I quickly realized that I wasn't in the Tri-Cities anymore. I was out-of-town on a mini vacation so I missed the second race. It sounds like it was a kickin' course and people had fun ... even though it was hard. We had quite a few racers from out-of-town: Yakima - Spokane - Moses Lake - Walla Walla - Selah - Bend, OR & Long Branch, NJ. Thanks to all that helped out, including Robert Croft & Charlie Wilcox (course set-up), Jay Weber (for the "facilities"), and Becky Henry (registration). Since I wasn't there, I don't know how the racing went but I did receive a couple comments from people who rode: [From Chris Foster] It was the most challenging course I have ever done. Straight up, straight down, no rest for the wicked. It definitely was a skill tester for me. I heard that some people went down. It was so hard on my bike that the eyes that hold my spoke nipples started tearing out of the wheel seeking relief. It showed me that I should be putting in more mileage and getting some legs under me. [From Brent Strecker] I would say the race went well. Robert made quite a course. I think most people liked it. Only 3 experts finished ... 2 of which would not talk to us when they were done. They were out there over 2 hours. A few riders used a lot of profanity while riding. Saying things like "I just wanted a work out. I didn't come out here to get killed." A big THANKX to the sponsors who contributed the raffle prizes for the series: Kennewick Bike & Fitness, Scott's Cycle, [Kennewick], [Kennewick], [Yakima], BICYCLE BARN [Walla Walla], Stop by any of these businesses and let them know that you appreciate their support of mountain bike racing.
