GAME PREVIEW
vs.
Los Angeles Kings at Vancouver Canucks
Time and Location: Saturday 12 October 1998 2:00PM PST at GM Place, Vancouver
TEAM RECORDS
Vancouver Canucks (0-0-0)
Los Angeles Kings (1-0-0); won their last game against Edmonton 2-1
OVERVIEW
The season opener for the Canucks happens at home against the Kings.
The Canucks are coming off a respectable preseason record of 4-3-1 in which the
Canucks displayed an impressive defense and an entertaining roster. There's reasons
for this young team to be pumped in this game, and the home crowd will only increase that.
The Canucks are looking to become a strong home team this season, and opponents
will likely not enjoy coming to play at the Garage.
The Kings have already had their first game in Edmonton, where they won
2-1 in a late third period goal by Luc Robitaille. In that game, goalie Stephane
Fiset had a strong game, and you'll likely see solid goaltending at their end in this
game. However, Vancouver's goaltending tandem of Garth Snow and Corey Hirsch are
under pressure to perform, and aren't likely to take the night off either.
STREAKS
The Kings are on a one game winning streak. The Canucks have not yet played in the regular season.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
1. Some tough play from Vancouver's young crowd. Look for
Scatchard and Cooke to muck it up.
2. Todd Bertuzzi to come out playing big. If he's anything like
he was in the preseason, LA should watch out.
3. Mark Messier's play. He had a groin injury in preseason, and
last year was playing hurt. Is Moose healthy now?
SUPERFAN PREDICTION
I'm expecting good things in the season opener.
