GAME PREVIEW

Vancouver Canucksvs.Washington Capitals

Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

Time and Location: Wednesday 21 October 1998 4:00PM PST at the MCI Center, Washington, D.C.

TEAM RECORDS

Vancouver Canucks (2-2-0); lost their last game against Carolina 3-1
Washington Capitals (3-1-1); won their last game against Tampa Bay 4-1

OVERVIEW

The Canucks are under pressure at this point to produce a respectable win.  Vancouver continues to be plagued by terrible offensive production in the form of a pitifully low shot total.  The Canucks have the lowest number of shots on net in the league right now, and need to start generating chances if they hope to win a game, rather than steal one.  Mark Messier seems to be heating up, and is still chasing goal #600.  Alexander Mogilny has been horrid, with only 3 shots on net in 4 games - hopefully Messier will employ the "Stare" and get AlMo going.   Corey Hirsch will start in net this game.

STREAKS

The Canucks are on a one game losing streak.  The Hurricanes are unbeaten in two (one win, one tie).

THINGS TO WATCH FOR

    1. Mark Messier to score his 600th.
    2. An effortful performance in net by Corey Hirsch.
    3. A team to rise to the occasion of a fighting the Stanley Cup finalist Capitals.

SUPERFAN PREDICTION

This game looks like an easy blowout for Washington, but Vancouver will be ready to play against a powerful Capitals team.  The offense will be low though, but Hirsch will give a good performance in net.
