GAME PREVIEW
vs.
Pittsburg Penguins atVancouver Canucks
Time and Location: Friday 30 October 1998 7:00PM PST at GM Place, Vancouver
TEAM RECORDS
Vancouver Canucks (4-4-0); lost their last game against Nashville 5-4
Pittsburg Penguins (4-2-1); won their last game against Calgary 5-2
OVERVIEW
The Canucks come home after a 2-3 road trip, which should have gone a lot better. Pittsburg is a formidable opponent, even with the loss of free agent Ron Francis to the Carolina Hurricanes. Jaromir Jagr is the most obvious threat - he is leading the scoring race (surprise, surprise) with 2 goals and 12 assists. Vancouver checkers will have to pay extra attention his line. However, Vancouver is also getting great production from Mark Messier (4 goals, 7 assists), Alexander Mogilny (3 goals, 6 assists) and Mattius Ohlund (3 goals, 6 assists). If Vancouver can contain Jagr, and Vancouver's offensive players get the puck in the net, this could be a great game. Vancouver must be disciplined, or Jagr could single-handedly destroy the Canucks on the power play. Garth Snow is expected to start.
STREAKS
The Canucks are on a one game losing streak. The Penguins on a two game winning streak.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
1. Can the Canucks keep Jaromir Jagr off the scoresheet?
2. Will Messier continue his four game point scoring streak?
(Another goal and he'll surpass Jari Kurri on all time goal scoring)
3. Production from Vancouver's young guns.
SUPERFAN PREDICTION
Jagr is dangerous, but Vancouver is playing at home and is not about to be embarrased by one guy.
