Oilers Shellshock Canucks 5-3

The Canucks were raked
over the coals by Edmonton in which the 5-3 score was flattering. The Canucks looked
tired, playing their third game in four nights. Edmonton peppered the Canucks with
shots, and poor G Corey Hirsch must have been shell-shocked by the end of the game.
Edmonton had 49 shots, while Vancouver managed a paltry 16. Vancouver looked flat
footed as Edmonton used its extraodinary speed to skate circles around the Canucks.
Vancouver was forced to kill a lot of penalties - 9, compared to Edmonton's 3.
Edmonton scored three times on their chances, while Vancouver scored once. Former
Canuck Josef Beranek had two goals and an assist, and red-hot Bill Guerin scored a
beautiful goal on the powerplay where he skated through the entire Canuck defense and put
the puck home. The Canucks were lucky to leave with only 5 goals against, but Corey Hirsch was spectacular in net, stopping numerous big chances to keep the final score respectable. |
