McCabe Ends Holdout, Signs Three-Year Deal

The Canucks defense just went from good to better with the signing of holdout D-man Bryan McCabe. McCabe had missed the first 13 games of the season in an attempt to wrestle more money out of GM Brian Burke. That holdout has ended with the signing of a 2 year deal, with an additional year at the club's option. The Vancouver Province reports the deal is believed to be worth $1.53 million the first two years, but the option year may pay $2 million if certain performance incentives are reached. With the talent of the tough, young McCabe, the deal is essentially for three years, with it being unlikely the Canucks will not renew the contract in two years. McCabe was acquired from the New York Islanders with LW Todd Bertuzzi for RW Trevor Linden near the end of last year. McCabe had 1 goal and 11 assists in his 26 games with the Canucks last year.
