Okay, so we bought a two story house. Okay, so the house had a sliding glass door on the second level. Okay, so it was a big step down! After nearly two years, we finally had the time to get going on a deck of Amber's design. Grandpa Morgan's invaluable help made the grand process take shape in only about eight days.

Where is Amber in all this? Up before dawn, in bed after dark, and behind the camera in most of the pictures. Working on the deck and documenting the process makes it difficult to appear in any pictures. Deck was finished just before New Year's Day.

Before the grand process of building our deck and staircase, the house had a second story sliding door with a big step down. In this picture, Charley is digging the first of the post holes which will be cemented in to form the structure for the deck.

Another view of the project house before building the deck. This one shows Amber and Grandpa marking the boundaries to align the posts.

Grandpa and Amber's brother Stephen work on aligning the beams across the deck to support the footing. It's a two-man process!

Amber's Grandpa Rayomnd Morgan poses for the camera between the beams.

Another picture of Grandpa and Stephen working on the beams.

A little further along, Amber works to drill pilot holes and place screws in the deck boards.

Charley and Grandpa work to place the rails on the outside of the upper deck. Amber had to make things difficult and ask for a closer rail measurement! Now how many do we fit in here?

Grandpa and Charley work on the lower end of the stairway. Just a few more treads and rails and we'll be close to done!

Yet another foggy and cold day in December, just before the massive snowstorm. It's coffee and hot chocolate to keep us warm! If you look carefully, you'll see Zee Zee in her pretty sweater at Grandpa's feet!

Another picture of our sweet baby girl Zee Zee trying to stay warm in the truck. No matter how hard we tried, she wouldn't stay inside the house. She had to be out in the middle of the building, scaring us to death around power tools and a deck with no sides!

Charley is measuring twice and cutting once to get the rails down the stairs done.

Close as can be on another cold day!
