On Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, Charley was named as the back-up goaltender for the Bakersfield Fog hockey team. Lee Schill, Amber's second-favorite goaltender, backstopped the Fog to a 6-3 win over the Russian Red Army. Charley's performance as a back-up was good enough to earn me a return engagement one month later.

For three weeks in 1998, Charley took his place on the Fog's bench as the back-up to Eddie Skazyk, who relieved injured starter Igor Galkin.

The second stint also included a rare road game to the Selland Arena in Fresno against the Falcons. Although it was a road trip, it was also a homecoming of sorts as Charley played in the Selland Arena for two seasons while with the Fresno State Bulldogs.
