Wednesday, January 20th, 1999 Falcons upset Vikings; Reeves will face old team in Super BowlConference Championship Games After posting a remarkable 15-1 record in the regular season, breaking the NFL record for points scored, having the rookie of the year (WR Randy Moss) and routing the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional playoffs, the Vikings were defeated in the NFC Championship Game, at Minnesota's Metrodome, by the Atlanta Falcons, 30-27, in OT. The Vikings just made too many mistakes. They were up 20-7 at one point - them fumbled late in the second quarter, giving Atlanta a chance to close in. They did. Then they were up 27-20, and they lined up for a FG late in the game. The unexpected happened. Vikings Kicker Gary Anderson did not miss a kick (FG or XP) the entire season - until then. He missed on a 38 yard FG, just a foot wide. The Falcons, led by an impressive performance by QB Chris Chandler, capitalized, with the tying score coming with only 49 seconds to go in the game - a Mathis TD catch from Chandler. In overtime, the Vikings couldn't move the ball, and Atlanta, once again, made it happen. Morten Andersen kicked a 38 yard FG - and made it. That was the end of the season for the once Mighty Vikings. The Falcons are going to their first ever Super Bowl. And they'll have a really tough challenge ahead. The Denver Broncos ran all over the New York Jets in the AFC Championship Game, thanks once again to RB Terrell Davis, the NFL's MVP. He rushed for 167 yards in th 23-10 win, propelling the Broncos to their second straight Super Bowl - fifth time overall. They will have a chance to go for the repeat against their former coach, Falcons' Dan Reeves. Super Bowl XXXIII will be played at Miami's Pro Player Stadium, on January, 31st. ---
