This
"MAN" is the all-time greatest Redbird!! I regret that
he retired the year I was born, so I never actually got to see
him play! He is a member of the 3000 hits club with 3630 total
hits, and leads the Cardinals in that category, as well as being
the all-time leading Cardinal in games played, at bats, runs
batted in, runs, walks, home runs, doubles, triples, extra base
hits and total bases. He played for the Cardinals for 22 years,
had seven batting titles (lifetime .331 average) and led the
Cardinals to NL pennants in 1942, '43, '44 and '46 and World
Series titles in all of those years except 1943. He truly was
"The Man."
